In Hollywood, the incredibly labor-intensive process of creating visual effects for our 21st-century cinema is called "post-production." But the global assembly lines that run from Los Angeles through Bombay, Beijing, London, Vancouver, Toronto (and not a few other places) still rely on 20th-century modes of industrial production. Lucy Raven will discuss two current works that explore location and space insofar as they relate to contemporary movie-making, and bring real-world geographies (and real workers) back in to the virtual spaces today's moviegoers inhabit.

Lucy Raven is an artist living in New York. Upcoming solo exhibitions include those at Portikus, in Frankfurt, Germany, and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, in San Francisco. She is currently an artist-in-residence at the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center at RPI in Troy, New York, where she will premiere a new work in February 2015. She has taught a course on "Motion Capture" in the Art Criticism & Writing program in 2010 and 2013.

Quijote Talks take place in our library on 21st Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues in Chelsea, usually on Thursdays at 6:30 pm. Named after our favorite after-lecture hangout, El Quijote in the Chelsea Hotel, and inspired by the knight errant himself, this new series consists of pointed talks and discussions about relevant pasts and possible futures.
